These figures are based on 2008 average weights and are only an estimate of expenses for a typical 4-H or FFA livestock project. Due to variations in individual projects, all figures are to be used as examples only.
The cost of a 4-H or FFA animal project is higher than commercially raised livestock because of the individual attention given to that animal and its development. (The hundreds of hours of labor and attention are not even factored into these figures.)
In most cases, exhibitors who earn an actual profit on their livestock projects, use the money to reinvest back into next year's project animal or into their college savings fund.
